DiSC certification: 5 questions to ask yourself before choosing your training

Thinking about becoming Everything DiSC® certified? Before comparing offers and fees, take a few minutes to clarify what you actually need. The five questions below will help you choose a training that truly prepares you to facilitate, not just to obtain a certificate.

1. In which language do you want to train and facilitate?

DiSC certification is first and foremost about learning to debrief profiles and run workshops. Training in the language you will later facilitate in makes a real difference: the nuances of behavioural styles, the examples and the exercises transfer much more easily.

Wiley’s official programme is delivered in English only. Training offered by authorised partners such as Learning Partners is available in French and English.

2. How experienced are you as a facilitator?

If you already run workshops or training sessions regularly, a more self-directed format may be enough: your focus will mainly be on mastering the model and the tools. If facilitation is new to you, choose a training with plenty of supervised practice, in small groups, with personalised feedback.

3. How much time can you commit, and when?

Formats vary widely:

• In person or online: a few intensive days of training, followed by supervision sessions;
• E-learning: modules completed at your own pace, complemented by one-to-one remote follow-up;
• Wiley online programme: remote modules and live sessions, in English.

Look honestly at your schedule for the coming months. A self-paced format is valuable if your weeks are unpredictable; an intensive format means blocking time, but creates real group momentum.

4. What support will you need after certification?

This is often the most underestimated question. The real challenge begins with your first workshop: adapting the agenda, handling a sceptical participant, interpreting an unusual profile. Ask yourself who will be there to answer your questions at that point.

5. What kind of recognition are you looking for?

Not all certifications award the same certificate. The official Wiley certification (Everything DiSC® Certified Practitioner) is the most widely recognised internationally; authorised partners award their own practitioner certificate. If you work with large international organisations, official recognition may matter; if your priority is facilitating with confidence, the quality of the training and follow-up will count for more.
